Principal Engineer / Tech Lead – Ruby on Rails, Monolithic Architecture, SaaS – Remote (UK Hours) – Equivalent to £85,000 to £100,000– Ref: JB128
We are currently on the hunt for a Principal Engineer / Tech Lead with a strong background in Ruby on Rails. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of improving the scalability and resilience of monolithic systems while addressing technical debt.
You will be joining a growing B2B SaaS scale-up, working within one of the Agile Scrum Squads.In this role, you will help define their technical strategy, working closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and external partners to deliver robust, user-centric solutions. You will lead from the front, driving architectural decisions, providing hands-on guidance, and ensuring delivery of clean, maintainable code. You will own the technical estimations and help shape the scope and
phasing of complex initiatives.
We are looking for someone who combines solid engineering fundamentals with strong product sense and leadership skills. You will be solving real-world problems, advocating for engineering excellence, and championing AI-driven innovation within the team.
Skills, knowledge and Experience required:
- You must have a strong background in Backend Ruby on Rails development
- You must have a proven track record of improving the scalability and resilience of monolithic systems while addressing technical debt. This will include identify areas for improvement, refactor legacy code, and improve the platforms foundations.
- You will have experience of advocating best practices and ensuring there is thorough test coverage
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and system observability is preferred
