Director of Engineering – B2B SaaS, AI-First, Agentic Engineering Transformation – London / Remote First – £100,000 to £125,000 – Ref: JB175
Location: Remote First (UK-based preferred, with monthly in-person meetings at the London office)
We are working with an established B2B SaaS scale-up who are transforming into an AI-first, agentic engineering organisation. By rethinking how software is planned, developed and delivered, they are replacing traditional management-heavy structures with lean, high-performing teams empowered by AI, automation and autonomous workflows.
This is more than a technology transformation; it represents a fundamental shift in how engineering operates. We are seeking a Director of Engineering to help lead this change, align teams around business outcomes and build a world-class AI-enabled delivery organisation.
As Director of Engineering, you will act as the key link between engineering teams, Product Managers and senior leadership. Your primary focus will be on coordination, alignment and execution, ensuring that teams remain focused on delivering meaningful business outcomes at pace.
This is not a hands-on engineering role. Instead, you will provide organisational leadership, set clear direction, and ensure that multiple teams operate effectively within a fast-moving, AI-enabled delivery model.
You will be responsible for orchestrating delivery across several small teams, removing blockers, managing dependencies and ensuring execution remains tightly aligned with business priorities and customer needs.
You will also play a critical role in managing organisational performance, including handling challenging people decisions when required
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and align 6–8 small, high-performing teams (typically consisting of one Product Manager and one to two senior staff level Harness Engineers)
- Ensure strong communication and alignment across engineering, product and senior leadership
- Own delivery planning, including roadmaps, milestones and execution schedules
- Identify and remove blockers in collaboration with platform, DevOps and product functions
- Work closely with Product Managers and customers to ensure technical delivery aligns with business outcomes
- Lead performance management processes, including difficult conversations and organisational changes where necessary
- Foster a culture of accountability, high performance and continuous improvement
- Champion and embed their AI-first, agentic approach to software delivery
About You
You are an experienced engineering leader who combines strong commercial judgement with excellent organisational leadership skills.
You will likely have:
- Proven experience leading engineering teams within fast moving B2B SaaS environments
- Strong programme and delivery management capability, with the confidence to challenge teams and maintain focus on outcomes
- Enough technical depth to engage credibly with engineers, while remaining focused on leadership rather than hands-on development
- Experience handling complex organisational situations, including underperformance, restructuring and large-scale delivery challenges
- A calm but decisive leadership style, able to align and motivate high-performing teams
- Comfort operating in fast-changing environments with evolving structures and ways of working
- A strong interest in AI-first, agentic approach to software delivery
- Experience leading organisations through periods of transformation
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience building or operating AI-driven or agentic engineering delivery models
- A proven track record of leading teams through significant organisational change
- The ability to create clarity, alignment and momentum in ambiguous environments
- Strong stakeholder management experience with direct customer engagement with Enterprise Customers
