Associate Threat Researcher – Malware – Remote First (UK Based with Monthly / Quarterly trips to London) – £40,000 to £55,000 – Ref: JB-71
We have a new opportunity for an Associate Threat Researcher to join a Cyber Security scale-up with offices in the UK and US. The Associate Threat Researcher will assist the Senior Security researcher in conducting in-depth analysis of malware samples, developing and refining detection methods using YARA rules, and identifying and developing IOCs to support threat hunting and incident response activities.
The role will help demonstrate and prove the efficiency of the company’s products in preventing malware from crossing a trust boundary. It will also be instrumental in widening the commercial offering of their products by helping to identify malware analysis as a service to aggregators of threat information.
Skills, knowledge and experience required:
- You must have a strong educational background with a minimum of a 2.1 degree in a Cyber Security or related field such as Computer Science with Security related modules – A number of their engineers are educated to MSc / PhD level
- You should have a demonstrable, real interest in threat-based / Malware research and analysis. (This could have been gained during your studies, internship or in a commercial setting).
- You will ideally have prior experience (or an understanding) of reverse engineering with the ability to code in one of the following languages: Python (preferred), C++ or C#
We are looking for candidates with a defence focused mindset instead of offence (i.e. this would not suit security engineers who like to spend the majority of their time breaking things).
The role is remote first, but we do need the successful candidate to be based within the UK and have full right to work. There might be a need to gain security clearance, so you do need to have lived & worked within the UK for a minimum of 5 years. They tend to hold planning sessions in the London office once every 1 to 3 months. Travel costs will be provided.
